Where to Park for Bastille Day in Fairmount
Stop by the Eastern State Penitentiary at 20th and Fairmount on Saturday, July 12, 2014, at 5:30 p.m. for the mock-storming of the Bastille. This event is unique to Philadelphia, and this year is its 20th anniversary. We advise leaving the history buffs at home so you can appreciate all of the historical inaccuracies in peace. The Bearded Ladies, a cabaret troupe known for making things wonderfully campy, will be narrating the lively event with song, dance, and the occasional giant baguette. It’s kitschy French culture at its best!
Both Ben Franklin and Napoleon are set to stop by during the event and restaurants will open their doors to event attendees on Saturday. If you find that a Butterscotch Krimpet didn’t quite satisfy your appetite, make a trip to the Belgian Café or London Grill for some traditional French fare. An added bonus: the Penitentiary will open their doors again for twilight tours.
With all the hubbub surrounding Fairmount for Bastille Day, parking your car in a garage guarantees convenience and safety. After all, you don’t want your precious car to be surrounded by the fretful peasants that day!
Play up your Marie Antoinette attitude and safely park your car in a garage, where it will be treated like a Queen. Try parking at our 19th and Callowhill garage, only a 13-minute walk from all the action on Bastille Day. Want to plan your own trip instead? Use the PPA’s parking locator.
Regardless of how you get there, Bastille Day is sure to be one full of merriment and French culture. Did we mention the giant baguettes?
