Where to Park for Eastern State Penitentiary’s Bastille Day
Are you as revolutionary or royalist? Don’t know? Welp, you should probably pick a side ASAP.
This Sat., July 16, is Eastern State Penitentiary Celebrates Bastille Day, one of Philly’s most treasured summertime events.
Here’s the scoop: Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Fairmont Avenue and Eastern State Penitentiary will host the always-festive Bastille Day block party. We’re talking everything from water balloon tosses to playing jumbo Jenga. Oh yeah, let’s not forget the Tastykake-eating contest that will leave your nutritionist shaking their head in disapproval.
Of course, the block party is just an appetizer to the main event at 5:30 p.m. as The Bearded Ladies put on a hour-long song and dance performance. Following the performance, the storming of the Bastille will be reenacted with the likes of Napoleon, Joan of Arc, Benjamin Franklin and a giant French baguette joining the rush.
OK, so you’re probably wondering, “Is this at all historically accurate?” No, but just go with it.
Now let’s get you parked: If you plan on driving down to the festivities, for only $10 and a 10 minute walk, you can park at our 19th and Callowhill Lot before stuffing your faces with Tastykakes and storming the Bastille. As always our parking locator has you covered with other parking options, too.
