meterUP: Philly’s New Convenient Parking App
Okay, Philly. We know you’ve been waiting a long time for this, and now we’re happy to say (drum roll please)…
Our mobile payment app, meterUP, is rolling out city-wide!
Let’s jump right into it: On November 19, 2015 our mobile parking app, meterUP, went live, allowing visitors and residents to conveniently pay for parking from the palm of their hands.
Since November 2015, meterUP was only available in select parts of Philly, but now we’re ready to expand meterUP city-wide!
Now let’s get into the full details: meterUP not only offers the convenience of paying for parking from any phone, it also offers many other features such as being alerted when your parking session is about to expire! Question: What is meterUP?
Answer: meterUP is the easiest way to pay for parking in Philadelphia. No more feeding the meter. No change? No problem! Just meterUP!
Question: Where can I use meterUP?
Answer: meterUP can be used to pay for on-street parking at any location displaying meterUP signage. These signs will display the proper meterUP zone number to be used while making mobile payments. More information on what to look for can be found here.
Question: How do I get meterUP?
Answer: There are three ways to use meterUP to pay for parking in Philadelphia:
- Go to your smartphone’s app store, download and install the meterUP application.
- Call toll-free 1-844-meterUP (1-844-638-3787) and follow the prompts for personal assistance.
- Access our Sign-Up webpage on meterUP.xyz.
Answer: Click here to see a quick video! Once you’ve signed up with meterUP, you can start using your mobile phone to pay for parking wherever you see the meterUP signs.
- Simply open the app and enter your parking zone number, which is located on meterUP signs and our kiosks.
- Click the orange “P” button to select your desired amount of time to park.
- Click “Confirm” then “Start Parking” and you’re good to go!
Question: Can I use meterUP if my phone isn’t “smart”?
Answer: Yes! You can call 1-844-meterUP (1-844-638-3787) and follow the prompts to pay for parking via text message.
Question: What if I don’t have a cell phone?
Answer: There are still ways to use this system even if you don’t have a cell phone. You can call 1-844-meterUP (1-844-638-3787) and follow the prompts to pay for parking, or you can visit meterUP.xyz.
Question: What kind of cell phones work with the meterUP app?
Answer: The app is currently available for iOS and Android smartphones. You can also pay for parking via text using a flip phone.
Question: Do I need a credit card?
Answer: The meterUP app and many of its features are free of charge, but, to pay for parking you’ll need a Visa, Mastercard, American Express or Discover card. Debit cards with any of those logos are accepted as well.
Question: How long can I park?
Answer: Parking time limits vary from location to location.
To ensure you don’t go past the designated time limit, be sure to carefully read the signs where you’re parked.
Question: Will I know when my parking session is about to end?
Answer: Yes! One of the great features of meterUP is a free notification seven minutes prior to the end of your parking session.
Question: How does a Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) know I paid through meterUP?
Answer: When you pay with meterUP, we’ll ask you for your license plate. When the PEO enters your license plate number into their ticketing device, they’ll receive a notification that your vehicle is in a paid parking session.
Question: I registered my Delaware license plate in meterUP, but I still got a ticket, why?
Answer: When registering license plates that also have letters (Delaware uses PC to denote a passenger vehicle), you need to enter all digits and numbers so you won’t be ticketed. (Ex: DE, PC12345)
Question: How do I review/edit my meterUP account?
Answer: You have several options to review/edit your account:
App: Open the meterUP app and go to the “Account” tab. Here you can change, add or remove vehicles or drivers and update your payment method.
Any mobile phone: Dial toll-free 1-844-meterUP (1-844-638-3787) and follow the prompts for personal assistance.
Web: Simply sign-in to your personal account using the phone number you entered during the account setup process.
Question: How do I extend my parking session?
Answer: Once you receive a reminder that your parking session will expire, you can extend your time, up to the maximum posted time limit. Simply click the extend button (it looks like a timer) in the app, or call 1-844-meterUP (1-844-638-3787) after you have started a parking session.
Question: I often park for a period that runs into the time when parking is free. Is meterUP smart enough to adjust for this?
Answer: Yes! If you park for a period that runs into the time when parking is free (5:00-7:00 p.m. for example, when parking is free after 6:00 p.m.), meterUP will only charge you until 6:00 p.m.
Answer: Yes! The Philadelphia Parking Authority manages three SEPTA parking lots. The locations and their meterUP zone numbers are listed below:
- Torresdale Rail Station: Zone # 49000
- Fox Chase Rail Station: Zone # 49002
- Fern Rock Transportation Center: Zone # 49003
Question: I paid for parking with meterUP but still got a ticket. What’s the problem?
Answer: Although we do our best to ensure a seamless transaction, once in awhile, mistakes can happen. If you paid for parking with meterUP and received a ticket, simply email us at info@meterUP.xyz, or call us at 1-844-meterUP (1-844-638-3787) and we’ll help you resolve the matter.
Question: I got a new car, but have the same license plate. Do I need to re-register in meterUP?
Answer: If your license plate is the same, you do not need to re-register.
Question: I want to pay for three hours of parking, but the app will only let me pay for two. What’s up?
Answer: The app only lets you pay for parking up to the maximum time limit that is posted. For example, if you are parked in a two-hour zone, you can only pay for up to two hours in one session.
Answer: The scenario is exactly the same if you were parked at a stand-alone meter or kiosk. When the Parking Enforcement Officer inputs your plate number into their handheld ticketing device, they’ll check if you paid for a parking session with meterUP. If you’re not in a paid parking session, they’ll begin timing your vehicle and give you the free hour parking allowance.
Question: Why does the parking rate increase after the maximum time posted?
Answer: Once you have parked past the maximum time posted, you have the option to park longer, but the rate doubles. If you park past the posted time limit a second time, the rate triples. See below for example:
I park at 201 Columbus Boulevard. The rate is $1.50/hour and the posted time limit is four hours.
I park from 10:00 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. and pay a total of $6.00.
At 1:53 p.m., I receive a notification that my time will expire, and I choose to extend the time.
From 2:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m., the rate is doubled, so I pay $3.00 an hour, a total of $12.00.
At 5:53 p.m., I receive a notification that my time will expire, and I choose to extend the time.
From 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m., the rate is tripled, so I pay $4.50 an hour, a total of $18.00.
Question: How secure is my data in the meterUP system?
Answer: The meterUP system is protected using the most advanced information security systems in the world. It meets the most stringent PCI DSS Level 1 compliance standards utilizing HTTPS, PKI, SSL and 128-bit encryption.
