PPA & Variety Announce ADA Mobility Access Initiative

(PHILADELPHIA) – The Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) and Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Delaware Valley (https://varietyphila.org/), today jointly announced the pending start of the PPA’s latest quality of life initiative. The PPA’s new ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Mobility Access Initiative is a dual public education and on-street enforcement initiative aimed at stopping illegal parking on sidewalks and blocking curb cuts and crosswalks, all of which seriously impede access and the free movement of people with disabilities.

PPA Executive Director Rich Lazer joined Variety Chief Executive Officer Dominique Bernardo in saying, “Our new Mobility Access Initiative is aimed at changing behavior and raising public awareness of the adverse impact on people with disabilities when motorists park illegally on sidewalks or block curb cuts and crosswalks.”

In conjunction with the on-street enforcement efforts, a series of public service announcements (PSAs) featuring two persons with disabilities will be aired on various social media channels for the next six months. The PSAs feature Lamoni Green, a Variety Ambassador and local college student born with cerebral palsy and her mother Tanya Green. Sheila Hess, the former Philadelphia City Representative who was born with spina bifida, is also featured in the PSAs.

“The PPA is honored to partner with Variety – the children’s charity of the Delaware Valley – on this very important and worthwhile initiative. They are a tremendous charity with a long history of serving young people with disabilities. They were instrumental in helping us with the messaging and production of the PSAs,” said PPA Executive Director Lazer.

“Lamoni and Sheila are representative of the thousands of Philadelphians, and millions of Americans with physical disabilities who must confront barriers every day that impede their access and freedom of movement on our city streets,” Lazer said.

“Variety’s goal in partnering with the PPA on this vitally important initiative is to emphasize that the simple act of parking your car illegally in the wrong place, for even only a few minutes, can significantly impact someone else’s life.  We are grateful to the PPA for bringing these issues to light and taking action,” said Variety’s Bernardo.

In order to give residents ample notice of the pending enhanced enforcement, the PPA will distribute warning notices starting today Lazer said. Enhanced enforcement will begin Monday – May 13th.

In closing, Lazer said, “as you drive around the city, looking for a parking space, I think it’s important to remember the slogan from our Mobility Access Initiative. There’s a person behind the sign. Keep them in mind – please.”

What to Do if You’re Booted—And How to Avoid It in the Future

If you’ve found your vehicle adorned with one of our unmistakable yellow boots, it’s a sign that you’ve accumulated three or more unpaid parking, speed, or red-light camera tickets. While most boots are made for walking, ours serve as a reminder to address your outstanding fines promptly.

Avoiding the boot altogether is simple: keep those tickets from slipping through the cracks.

Here’s how it works: Upon receiving a parking ticket, you can pay it or dispute it. However, procrastination can lead to additional penalties of up to $65 in late fees. More on that here.

Now, back to the boot. Picture this: you return to your vehicle only to find it clamped with our iconic yellow boot due to multiple unpaid tickets. Here’s what you need to do:

STEP 1: Settle Outstanding Tickets and Boot Removal Fee:

Before the boot can be removed, all outstanding tickets, along with a $150 boot fee, must be settled – and you have multiple options to do this:

By Phone: If you do not know your boot removal number and cannot locate any of your previous tickets, remitting payment by calling 1-888-591-3636 is your best option.

Online Payment: If you have at least one of your outstanding tickets handy, you may pay all outstanding tickets and the boot removal fee by clicking the button below.

In Person: If you prefer to settle your outstanding balances in person, head to the Parking Violations Branch at 913 Filbert Street during the below hours:

Hours of Operation:
Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Sunday: Closed

If paying in full isn’t feasible, go to 913 Filbert Street and inquire about enrolling in a payment plan. You can find more details on enrolling in a payment plan can be found by clicking the button below.

Note: A 50% downpayment is required for booted vehicles to enroll in a payment plan. Additionally, the $150 boot removal fee is not eligible for a payment plan.

STEP 2: Our booting crew will be dispatched to release your vehicle from its clamped state once your outstanding balances are satisfied.

Have any questions about the booting process? Don’t hesitate to reach out to us on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook! We’re here to help. And while you’re here, check out the video below for more insight into booting/towing operations.

Charging Up at the PHL Airport

Are you part of the growing trend of electric vehicle (EVs) owners? Well, buckle up because we’ve got some great news for you! If you’re flying out of Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), you can now charge up your EV for free while you’re away.

Here’s the deal: In late 2015, we took the initiative to install seven EV charging stations at PHL. It won’t cost you a dime to use these charging stations. Just keep in mind that regular parking rates still apply. Check out the locations below to plan your charge:

These charging stations are managed and operated by ChargePoint, the largest EV charging network in the world. Plus, their mobile app makes finding available charging stations and their exact locations a breeze.

So, if you’re part of the growing group of EV owners and love to travel, PHL has got your back. Have any questions? Parking for Visitors

Being a gracious host extends beyond providing warm hospitality; it encompasses ensuring your guests’ entire experience is seamless from when they arrive to when they depart. One often overlooked aspect of hosting is ensuring your guests can easily find parking.

Luckily, you can alleviate any parking angst your out-of-town guests might have by taking advantage of our temporary parking permits and day passes, which can simplify the process for hosts and guests alike.

Let’s Get To It:

Day Passes:

  • Day passes consist of a single booklet of five parking passes for $35.
  • Residents can purchase a maximum of two booklets and then wait 60 days before buying another.
  • Proof of residence is required.
  • To use the pass, scratch off the month and date on which the pass will be used, and write the visitor’s license plate number in the box provided on the pass. Then, hang the pass on the rearview mirror. You can download the day pass application below:

Temporary Parking Passes:

  • Temporary parking passes can be purchased per visitor vehicle for a maximum of 30 days (or two increments of 15 days).
  • After 30 days, that visitor vehicle must wait 45 days before getting another temporary pass for that license plate.
  • Temporary parking passes cost $30 for 30 days and $15 for 15 days. To purchase a temporary pass, visit our office at 35 N. 8th Street Monday-Friday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm.
  • Proof of residence is required.
  • Since temporary parking passes are assigned to license plates, you must provide the license plate number of the visitor’s vehicle.

Note: Day passes are valid for up to a year after purchase.

And that’s how it’s done. If you have any questions, you can call our permit office at 215-683-9730. We can also field questions on  X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook.
